Biography of Phara
Groovebox, vinyl and club pressure
Phara's universe is recognized by a techno with an analog nerve, precise mixing, and a tension that seems to come as much from the studio as from the booth. Linked to Brussels and the contemporary Belgian scene, he has built an identity around fast rhythms, industrial atmospheres, dub pulses, and a very physical relationship with machines. His figure gained weight within the European circuit since 2016, the year he began to appear continuously on the front line of Belgian techno.
Fuse as a training ground
The residency at Fuse Brussels occupies a central place in his career. The club has not only been an exhibition platform, but also a laboratory to develop a demanding reading of the dancefloor, based on tension, groove, and selection with archival criteria. In DJ format, he is associated with vinyl-only sessions, fast and muscular, crossed by influences from Detroit, Berlin, and the UK, as well as elements of post-punk, wave, EBM, and electro. That mix of classic heritage and contemporary production has placed him in booths such as Berghain / Panorama Bar / Säule, RADION, C12, RSO.BERLIN, Bassiani, Bret, HÖR Berlin, and Stone Techno Festival.
From raw techno to Phaaar
His catalog has grown with references on labels such as Black Sun Records, Stockholm LTD, Planet Rhythm, EarToGround, Soma Records, SK Eleven, Token, and Fuse Imprint. Among his outstanding works are Next Of Kin, Mind Inside EP, The Great Attractor EP, Velvet V. EP, A Constant State Of Movement, The Wall, Soft Glow, Fierce Light, and Second Skin. The creation of Phaaar, his own label, reinforced a more autonomous stage, with releases such as Try Stress Relief Techniques, Falling Forward, How High Can A Pigeon Fly, and the EMX Series, focused on material born from his live sets.
The Electribe as a statement of principles
In 2022, he brought to the stage a live format based on the Korg Electribe EMX-1, a machine that has become a symbol of his language: few elements, lots of pressure, detuned textures, direct percussion, and a feeling of real risk. The EMX series documents that facet with tracks made and played from that hardware environment. In parallel, in 2024, he presented In Glass, a slower, more spacious, and harmonic extension of his sound world, oriented towards dub techno and immersive landscapes. His present combines live sets, vinyl sessions, activity at Phaaar, and international dates, maintaining a singular position within European techno: dark room energy, resident craft, and an increasingly recognizable analog search.
