Biography of Project One
Two friends and a hardstyle manifesto
Project One is the artistic alliance of Willem Rebergen and Joram Metekohy, known worldwide as Headhunterz and Wildstylez. Both hail from Veenendaal and shared a musical connection since their school days. In 2008, they shaped a project that was born as a one-off studio initiative and ended up becoming a foundational piece of modern hardstyle. Their debut at Defqon.1 2008 and the release of The Album marked a turning point for a scene that was looking for more ambitious melodies and emotion.
The science of the powerful melody
The sound of Project One combines euphoric hardstyle, compact kicks, wide leads, epic atmospheres, and an almost cinematic narrative. Tracks like Life Beyond Earth, The Art Of Creation, The Story Unfolds, The World Is Yours, Fantasy Or Reality, and The Zero Hour became generational anthems due to their balance between festival energy and melodic emotion. The duo redefined the idea of an album within hardstyle: it didn't just gather club tracks, but proposed a coherent, recognizable sonic universe designed to endure.
Silence, return, and expanding legacy
After an intense first phase, Project One was put on hold around 2010 while Headhunterz and Wildstylez strengthened their individual careers. The return at Qlimax 2016 reactivated the myth and opened a second phase with new pieces, select performances, and the EP I, which included Luminosity, One Without A Second, It’s An Edit, and a remix of Project 1 by Sound Rush. In 2018, they expanded the story with Maximum Force, the anthem of Defqon.1, and with Journey Of The Mind and Resurrection, released under the Art of Creation label, a label shared by its members.
A living legend of the harder culture
Project One maintains a unique position: it is a project of rare appearances but enormous impact. Their show Reflections of the Eternal at the Ziggo Dome, their return at VWAB presents Project One in Den Bosch in January 2026, and their presence at Nexus Festival at Fabrik Madrid confirm that the legacy remains active. With The Upside Down, released in 2025, the duo reconnected the past and present, proving that their formula of epicness, technical precision, and hardstyle emotion continues to be a reference for producers, festivals, and the international audience.
