Seth Troxler

From Michigan to the global club map

Seth Anthony Troxler is an American DJ, producer, and cultural agitator born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and raised in the suburban area of Detroit. His musical education began very early: he absorbed house, hip hop, and college radio in his stepfather's environment, and by the age of sixteen, he was working behind the counter at the record store Melodies & Memories. That direct contact with vinyl, local DJs, and Detroit raves shaped a vision deeply connected to the tradition of Detroit techno, Chicago house, and underground culture.

Selection, hedonism, and long-haul craft

After starting to DJ as a teenager and moving through parties in the local scene, Troxler made the leap to Europe in the 2000s. He debuted at Panorama Bar at just eighteen years old and later settled in Berlin, a key stage for developing a language that crosses minimal techno, deep house, elastic grooves, and a very free reading of the dance floor. He later lived in London and currently splits his time between Ibiza and Zurich. His reputation as a selector was consolidated in clubs like CircoLoco, fabric London, Space Miami, Panorama Bar, Bret, and Blitz, as well as major festivals like Glastonbury, Movement, Time Warp, Kappa FuturFestival, and Sónar.

Labels, aliases, and production with identity

Troxler was a co-founder of Visionquest alongside Ryan Crosson, Lee Curtiss, and Shaun Reeves, and has developed music under aliases such as Sex Trothler, Thrill Cosby, and Young Seth. His catalog connects labels like Crosstown Rebels, Wolf + Lamb, Hypercolour, Play It Say It, and Tuskegee, a project he shares with The Martinez Brothers. In 2015 he signed an installment of the DJ-Kicks series, and in recent years he has reinforced his label facet with Slacker 85, in addition to reactivating Tuskegee to support underrepresented artists within dance music.

Beyond the booth

His career also dialogues with contemporary art, gastronomy, and technology. He founded the restaurant Smokey Tails in London, climbed Kilimanjaro for charity, and, together with Phil Moffa, promotes Lost Souls of Saturn, an audiovisual project situated between futuristic electronics, art, and augmented reality. In 2019 he presented the installation Transmission at the Saatchi Gallery, after its premiere during Art Basel in Switzerland, and in 2024 LSOS released the album Reality along with an augmented reality comic. With Slacker 85, new tours, and the podcast Flirting With Friendship alongside Bill Patrick, Seth Troxler maintains a singular position: that of an artist who understands the club as an archive, conversation, and cultural experiment.
