Biography of Radio Berlin
The cage as the compass of the dancefloor
In Bogotá, Radio Berlin is first known for an iron object: the cage. The grate that surrounds the DJ booth and cuts across the dancefloor ended up being the nickname by which ravers and chroniclers identified the club. The venue itself defines it as a symbol of unity: the place where worries and joys are released to stay in the pulse. That device did not remain in nostalgia. In Chapinero it is still there, with the RADIOBERLIN neon in the background and the DJ playing behind the mesh.
From the Plaza de Toros to the center
Its identity was born at the beginning of 2010 in front of the Plaza de Toros in La Macarena. For six years that first venue functioned as a bridge between the closing of Cinema and the emergence of Baum, in a city with few stable electronic clubs. Through its booth passed Stacey Pullen, Troy Pierce, Jimmy Edgar, Margaret Dygas and Loco Dice, the latter in an improvised night in 2010 until seven in the morning when another event was cancelled. In 2016 the partners closed that location. Esteban Ramírez spoke of renewal and a next, more underground space. The operation was later relocated to the center, at Carrera 8 with Calle 19. In July 2023 they announced the end of that chapter with four farewell nights: the statement spoke of the last week in the heart of the city and left open the possibility of returning.
The third floor of Chapinero
The return took shape at Carrera 13 number 64-13. Since the end of 2023, the club has occupied a third floor in Chapinero, with a capacity of 500 people. The space adds two terraces —one linked to the VIP—, a rest area, cloakroom and strict access control. The cage traveled with them. The programming remains in techno, house and electro, with occasional drum and bass nights and vinyl marathons. It opens from Wednesday to Saturday, from 16:00 to 04:00, and club sets frequently extend until dawn.
Underground consistency, not a single address
What sustains Radio Berlin is not a concrete wall, but a team that has crossed a pandemic, moves and the closing of the center without letting go of the nickname of the cage. In Chapinero, the club nights, hard techno, local collectives and international guests continue. The neighborhood changed; the logic did not: closed dancefloor, booth behind the grate and techno until the day breaks.
