The moombahton that conquered Beatport with internet humor

When moombahton was still a club experiment, Dillon Francis turned it into a festival weapon: bass at 108 BPM, internet humor, and drops designed to make the crowd jump without asking for permission. Raised in Los Angeles, he studied visual arts at the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts and spent a short time at Santa Monica College before dropping out. A trip to Atlanta to learn Ableton with Cory Enemy and a year of obsessive work in front of the computer were enough for Diplo to take notice of him.

From Mad Decent and OWSLA to number one

The EP Swashbuckler (2010, Play Me Records) opened the door; Westside! on Mad Decent and "Que Que" with Diplo and Maluca placed him on the circuit. In February 2012, Something, Something, Awesome (OWSLA) made him the first moombahton artist to top the Beatport new releases chart. Tracks like "I.D.G.A.F.O.S." and "Masta Blasta (The Rebirth)" pushed the style toward a more aggressive moombahcore and toward trap. That same year he toured North America with the Wet & Reckless tour and supported Nero and Flux Pavilion. In 2013, the Wurld Turr coincided with the 73rd spot on the DJ Mag Top 100 and dates at Coachella, Ultra, EDC, TomorrowWorld, and Electric Zoo.

Get Low, Columbia, and platinum

"Get Low," with DJ Snake (2014), was his biggest pop hit: number 61 on the Billboard Hot 100 and platinum in the United States and Canada. The album Money Sucks, Friends Rule (Mad Decent / Columbia) reached 40 on the Billboard 200 and 2 on Dance/Electronic, with collaborations from Major Lazer, Martin Garrix, Twista, and Brendon Urie. This Mixtape Is Fire (2015) brought back moombahton with Skrillex, Calvin Harris, and Kygo, and topped the Billboard Dance/Electronic chart. After the single "Say Less" with G-Eazy, he left Columbia to release on his own label IDGAFOS.

Wut Wut, DJ Hanzel, and the Dillstradamus tour

The Spanish-language album Wut Wut (2018) —with Residente, iLe, Arcángel, Fuego, or De La Ghetto— earned him nominations for a Latin Grammy and a Latin American Music Award for the "Sexo" video. In parallel, the alias DJ Hanzel —a Germanic caricature of deep house— released Anti Everything (2023) and performed at Mixmag Lab. Happy Machine (2021) and This Mixtape Is Fire TOO (2023, Astralwerks) continued mixing trap, house, and pop. He has performed at Fortnite Party Royale (2020), Lost Lands, and Tomorrowland (2025). In 2026, he headlined the Dillstradamus tour with Flosstradamus, played at Stagecoach, received the Impact Award at the EDM Awards, and moved his worldwide booking to United Talent Agency. Recent collaborations with DJ Snake, Daya, or Monstercat keep him as one of the most recognizable —and least serious— figures in American electronic music.
