Dunes, trance and tension control

The techno of Ignez is recognized by a form of constant pressure: dry rhythms, space, reverb and a hypnotic sensibility that transforms the dancefloor into something more mental than spectacular. Raised along the north coast of the Netherlands, Peter Munnik early on incorporated the image of the surf, sand and open landscapes into music that advances with patience, intensity and a contained emotional charge. Based in Berlin, he has built an auteur identity within an area of contemporary techno where club functionality coexists with introspection.

Somov as his own territory

With Somov Records, a label started by him with its first documented releases in 2020, Ignez was able to present his vision without depending on external structures. The first installments of Somov opened a catalog of organic, deep and sometimes ambient techno, with a very careful focus on vinyl, visual art and aesthetic continuity. That independence was key to establishing his language: minimal patterns, long-distance energy and a narrative that does not seek immediate impact, but progressive immersion. Over time, his music also reached major platforms and labels such as Token, SK_eleven and WSNWG, expanding his reach without losing the introspective character of his productions.

Cult clubs and international pulse

His residency at Eerste Communie, the underground series associated with MARRØN in Amsterdam, has been a decisive axis in his development as a DJ. There he refined a way of mixing based on continuity, physical trance and detail, closely linked to the Dutch hypnotic sound but open to denser and more emotional textures. His sessions have projected from intimate rooms to international festivals and clubs, with presence in environments such as Berghain, Awakenings, Levenslang or Dommune. In the booth, Ignez avoids the obvious gesture: he works the tension in layers, sustains the dancefloor with a precise punch and lets the atmospheres breathe.

Collaborations and an increasingly defined voice

The collaboration with Rødhåd on the EPs Vermillion and Verdurous reinforced his position among the hypnotic techno producers most attentive to sonic depth. After works like Nadi, Aventurine, Tides and several Somov installments, his catalog shows an evolution from the raw club pulse towards more expansive compositions, with veiled melodies, maritime echoes and an emotional energy that does not dilute the rhythmic hardness. Currently, Ignez occupies a recognizable place within European techno: artist, label manager and long-format DJ, with his own aesthetic that privileges concentration, the collective memory of the dancefloor and the journey rather than the shock effect.
