The "King of Groove" in the heat of Boiler Room

At the 2023 Sydney Boiler Room, in front of a dancefloor of six thousand people, Jennifer Loveless strung together acid house, anthem pianos, ballroom re-readings, and club edits. Among friends and the public, she is known as The King Of Groove: a nickname that describes physical sets, full of swing and a strange joy, halfway between ecstasy and nostalgia.

From basement parties in Toronto to Naarm

She was born in Toronto and grew up between classical piano—she started at age three and by fifteen had completed grade eight—and the dancehall and soca parties in her family's basement. A trip to Guangzhou to connect with her Chinese heritage introduced her to Ableton Live. In 2012, she went on an exchange to Melbourne; her first gig outside her bedroom was at GoG Bar. What was supposed to be a short stay lasted more than a decade: the DIY scene in Naarm offered her DJ booths, a queer community, and a career that Toronto's nightlife laws did not provide.

Water, Around the World and pleasure in four mixes

She debuted as a producer in 2020 with Hard/Soft (Pure Space). Water (2021, Butter Sessions), imagined between oceans, raves, and Blue Planet, was hailed by Resident Advisor as the kind of second record that almost no one expects. In 10,000 Places traveled on Jayda G's DJ-Kicks for !K7. In 2022, Around the World—six solar house tracks written in Melbourne, with Muzik and Fall In Love at the forefront—received backing from Pitchfork and The Guardian, which included her among the ones to watch in 2023. Pleasure (2023) unfolded in four mixes, from vocals to techno, and Mixmag placed it among the best tracks of the year. In 2025, Fever was released on AUS Music, with the hypnotism of Heaven (Late Night) and the dirty tech house of UUP. Her catalog has also crossed paths with Future Classic, Turbo Recordings, Sex Tags UFO, Planet Euphorique, and Miami Daddy.

DJ booths ranging from Panorama Bar to Pitch

As a DJ, she feels just as comfortable at an after-party at Panorama Bar or De School as she does at festivals: Pitch Music & Arts—where Resident Advisor filmed a ninety-minute live set in 2024—, Horst, Dekmantel Selectors, Lentekabinet, Lost Village, Sónar Lisboa, or Circoloco at DC-10, where she played before Skrillex. Her mixes for Truants, Daisychain, Crack Magazine, Recognise by DJ Mag, and RA.1046 contrast the hedonistic and the minimal, the well-known and the deep cut.

Berlin, the queer dancefloor and what is to come

In 2021, she made the leap to Europe; she first settled in London and now lives in Berlin. There, she is a figure in the queer scene, with annual returns to Australia. She produces, DJs, writes toplines, improvises live with hardware, and has composed for film. RA dedicated an Art of Production feature to her. Her sound has not lost its warmth: house and techno with swing, emotion, and a desire for the dancefloor.
