Sónar is not just a music festival; it is a global cultural event that has put Barcelona on the map for artistic innovation. Founded in 1994 by Ricard Robles, Enric Palau and Sergio Caballero, it was born with the vocation of exploring the intersections between creativity, technology and "advanced music". What began as an experimental meeting has become a brand of international prestige, exporting its model to cities like Tokyo, Reykjavik, Istanbul or Bogota. Its unique structure divides the event into two: Sónar by Day, in the heart of the city (Fira Montjuïc), where the freshest and most experimental sounds are presented under the sunlight; and Sónar by Night, in the immense Fira Gran Via venue, where the massive party and the great audiovisual shows take center stage until dawn.

Laboratory of Future Sounds

The musical identity of Sónar is synonymous with discovery. Its programming is, year after year, the most daring and visionary in Europe. This is where legends like Kraftwerk, Chemical Brothers, Pet Shop Boys or Björk present their most ambitious shows, sharing the bill with the most disruptive names in the underground, grime, trap, experimental electronics or avant-garde reggaeton (like Rosalía, who premiered "El Mal Querer" there). Sónar does not follow trends, it creates them. It is the place where barriers between genres are broken, where academic music coexists with the most hedonistic club rhythms, and where each performance is a unique performance designed to challenge the audience's expectations.

Sónar+D: The Brain of the Festival

What really sets Sónar apart from any other festival is Sónar+D, its international congress of creativity and technology. This space brings together hackers, artists, scientists and entrepreneurs to explore how technology is changing the way we create and consume art. With virtual reality installations, artificial intelligence, hackathons and conferences from global leaders, Sónar+D turns the festival into a living think-tank.
