The Chunker pulse as a calling card

Sally C's Chunker sound has become a recognizable signature within the contemporary house circuit: elastic basslines, direct drums, trippy vocals, and a very physical reading of the dancefloor. Born in Belfast and based in Berlin, the Irish artist works between the craft of a selector, production, and running her own label, Big Saldo’s Chunkers, through which she champions the energy of American house and late eighties and nineties hip house.

Reading Rooms, AVA and the club school

Her musical education took shape in Dundee, Scotland, around the club The Reading Rooms, where she began DJing in 2010 and found a community that shaped her way of understanding dance culture. Before establishing her name as a solo artist, she performed alongside Rebecca B as Sister Swedge and, after completing her studies, remained linked to the Scottish scene with her own parties. In 2015, she moved to Berlin, a city where she gained ground with sessions at Griessmühle, outdoor raves, and a raw, fast, and groove-focused mixing style. The leap in perception came with her Boiler Room set at AVA Festival 2019, a turning point that confirmed her reach beyond the local underground.

Big Saldo’s Chunkers, archive and dancefloor muscle

Until 2020, her reputation had been built on selection, mixing, and digging, but the release of Big Saldo’s Chunkers 001 opened a chapter as a producer. The label draws momentum from the golden age of hip house and US house between 1988 and 1998, with references to figures like Fast Eddie, Tyree, or K-Hand, and has served as a home for tracks like Let’s Get This, Downtown, All Love, or Control. That aesthetic relies on a deliberately direct formula: robust bassline, punchy percussion, and characterful vocals, without losing a sense of humor or connection to tradition.

A global agenda without losing the neighborhood touch

Her catalog has also expanded with The Way To Do It on Rhythm Section, remixes for Obongjayar, LB aka LABAT, and CC:DISCO!, as well as the DR Pleasure EP, signed alongside Eliza Rose in 2024. In the booth, she moves with confidence between long sets, closings, and festival slots, with appearances at venues such as Panorama Bar, Robert Johnson, Printworks, Melt Festival, Love International, Kala, Awakenings, The Warehouse Project, HE.SHE.THEY, and Pitch Music & Arts. Her residency at Refuge Worldwide reinforces another dimension of her project: opening a platform to new voices and maintaining an idea of community that runs through both her sessions and her label.
