SASHA MANIA and British booth house

The first Mixmag cover dedicated to a DJ introduced him as a dancefloor phenomenon: SASHA MANIA. He came from Wales, having discovered acid house at The Haçienda in Manchester and polished a euphoric style—Italian piano, a cappellas, and emotional tension—at Shelley's Laserdrome in Stoke-on-Trent and at the Renaissance night. That late-eighties booth wasn't looking for a closed genre: it was looking for a multi-hour arc, from warehouse raves to the club that was still being invented.

The tandem with Digweed and the map of progressive

In 1993, the duo with John Digweed began. Renaissance: The Mix Collection (1994) and the Northern Exposure trilogy turned their selection into a roadmap for progressive house and atmospheric trance. The residency at Twilo in New York and global tours placed them at the center of the superstar DJ era. In 2000, DJ Magazine voted him number one in the world. He remixed Madonna, The Chemical Brothers, and Moby; his rework of Felix da Housecat's Watching Cars Go By earned him a Grammy nomination. Four International Dance Music Awards and four DJ Awards consolidated that stage.

Xpander, Involver, and the booth as a studio

Xpander (1999), with Charlie May, remains one of the most cited tracks in progressive. The Global Underground releases for San Francisco and Ibiza and the album Airdrawndagger (2002) opened up a more cinematic register. With Involver, Invol2ver, and Involv3r, he remade others' catalogs as if they were his own production. He brought Ableton Live to the dancefloor, co-developed the Maven controller, and in 2005 signed an Essential Mix at Maida Vale that is remembered as a technical milestone. The Delta Heavy tour (2002) with Digweed moved the club session to a concert format.

Last Night On Earth, Refracted, and the present

In 2011, he launched Last Night On Earth, a label for melodic house, progressive, and club electronica that in 2026 celebrated the LNOE200 catalog with the Hollow Sun EP. Scene Delete (2016) on Late Night Tales, the Refracted: Live show at the Barbican in London, LUZoSCURA (2021), and the soundtrack Da Vinci Genius The Score (2024) expanded his palette toward the ambient and audiovisual. In 2026, he reappears with Digweed for Northern Exposure Redux on Late Night Tales, while maintaining world tours—Tomorrowland, long-form b2b sets, label dates—with booking by Analog. His remains one of the booths that set the emotional tempo of British house.
